The 1905 Season

The 1905 Barnstable High School campaign was fortunately well-documented, and with particular zeal and enthusiasm for the game, the team's captain James H. Keane (Class of 1906) ensured that notes of each game and each event associated with the high school team were submitted to The Hyannis Patriot weekly newspaper. The newspaper was published each Monday evening. This year marked the earliest known mention of the team having a coach with Harvard medical student and former Red Raider quarterback Heman B. Chase fulfilling that role. In our research we have discovered that Barnstable and Falmouth (Lawrence High School) met three times in 1905, thereby giving Barnstable the all-time lead in the annual match-up.
