The 1907 Season

From the pages of the Bourne Pioneer newspaper (Later became the Barnstable

Patriot and Hyannis Patriot on file at the Sturgis Library, Barnstable Village)

Oct. 22, 1907 — Barnstable High School will open its 1907 football season with Lawrence High School of Falmouth on Thursday, Oct. 26 at Hallett's Field, Hyannis. This will the first opportunity to see football played under the new rules. The teams are evenly matched and management hopes for liberal patronage. Game will be called at 2:30 p.m. so the visitors may catch the train back to Falmouth.

Oct. 29, 1907 — Barnstable High School 6, Lawrence High 0 at Hallett's Field. A good one! Next is Provincetown at Hyannis, 3 p.m.

Nov. 5, 1907 — Barnstable defeats Provincetown 30-0 on Hallett's Field. The November 2 game was exceedingly interesting and cleanly played before 100 people who watch 25 and 20-minute halves. Scudder scored three touchdowns, Lewis one and F. Sherman one.

Nov. 12, 1907 — In an extremely fast game, Barnstable made long gains through Lawrence High's heavier line for a 22-0 victory. The contest was played mostly in Lawrence territory on this November ninth in Falmouth.

Nov. 26, 1907 — On November 23, Barnstable High School played against Tabor Academy in Marion, Mass. The game was a hotly contested tie, 0-0. Barnstable's stiff second half defence (sic) saved the day. Barnstable High School was very fortunate to be unscored upon during the season.
