The 1916 Season, From the pages of The Hyannis Patriot

Oct. 16, 1916 — "The B.H.S. football team won its second game of the season Thursday from the Hyannis All-Stars, 6 to 0. Although B.H.S. was handicapped by the absence of one of its stars, Ray Maher, they put up a good game."

On the line for the High school Hansberry, Smith, Mitchell and Bearse put up a good game, and the whole backfield did well. Ames showed a flash of form when he went across with the ball for the only touchdown. The features of the game were the tackling of Rodin and the line bucking of Leo Lewis for the All-Stars, also carrying of the ball by O'Neil for the High school.

    The line-up - All stars: Darling, L.E.; Cash, L.T.; Taylor, L.G.; Murphy, C.; Lewis, R.G.; Rodin, Brooks, R.T.; H. Bearse, R.E.; Ormsby, Q.B.; Cotelle, L.H.B.; Taylor, R.H.B.; Finklestein, F.B.

Nov. 27, 1916 —
"On Saturday, the Harwich High School football team visited Hyannis and played a game with the Barnstable High team. Score 43-0 in favor of Barnstable."

Dec. 4, 1916 — "On Thanksgiving Day, the Barnstable High School attempted almost the impossible considering there have been only fifteen boys out for football all season. In the morning at Osterville they were defeated 20-13 in a game replete with dazzling forward passes and brilliant runs. The line up of the Osterville team was featured by the presence of old time high school and college stars and the high school boys were gratified at the showing they made against these odds.

In the afternoon at Hyannis on Chase's Field, the tired but courageous High school team battled against heavy odds when they were defeated 14-0 by the older and heavier Hyannis All-Stars. Walter Hallett, of Springfield Y.M.C.A College, Leo Lewis, Robbins, Ormsby, Seth Crocker and other famous players gave the spectators much pleasure in their reappearance in the game.
