Historical Notes: Senior ace Whitney Floren set the BHS all-time single-season wins record on the mound with a 12-2 record and captured four wins in the state tournament, shattering the previous record set for single season wins set in 1979 by Red Raider southpaw Matt Dacey (11-0). Floren was named a 1st team Boston Globe All-Scholastic in helping lead BHS to the Division 1 State Championship final after the Red & White captured its second Eastern Massachusetts State Championship Crown (first one was in 1965). Both Floren and Joe Hayward were later drafted after playing in college and the Cape Cod Baseball League. Floren, in the 27th round of the 1991 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft by the New York Yankees. Floren went on to post a 20-3 lifetime record at the University of South Florida, a record which stands to this day.

* Game vs. Attleboro on 5-23-88 was 10 innings. Floren pitched all 10 innings for the Red Raiders, striking out 10 and walking just two batters to go 7-1 on the season.

Barnstable finished the regular season at 16-2 and was seeded number one in Division 1 in the south after clinching the Southeastern Massachusetts Conference versus New Bedford on May 25, 1988. It received a first-round bye in the tournament and faced Weymouth South in its first game. Two players from Weymouth were ejected in the sixth inning after a bench-clearing brawl at home plate.

**The Red Raiderts' Division 1 South Sectional Semifinals win over rival Bridgewater-Raynham was head coach Dean Boger's 100th career victory (seventh season as head coach).

Floren finished the season not only at 12-2 pitching with 108 Ks and 37 walks in 64 innings, but had two saves and boasted an ERA of 1.20. He also batted .439 with three HRs and 20 RBI. Ierardi, who went on to play first base for Providence College, batted .406 for the season with three HR and 20 RBI; Dave Grady, who went 5-0 on the season pitching, batted .448 and 28 RBI. Joe Hayward, who went on to play at Boston College and was drafted by the Boston Red Sox, batted .431 and led BHS with 31 RBI and five home runs.
