When Mary Lewis (Procaccino) arrived at BHS she had already been involved in athletics at the Osterville Community Center with her large, mostly athletic family of seven siblings.

Her first taste of Red Raider varsity sports began precociously in the 8th grade when she was called up to play at the end of the high school basketball season by coach and fellow hall of famer Katherine "Kay" Nehubian. Lewis played in the 1951 Cape Cod All-Cape Championship game as an 8th grader.

During her high school career, she lettered a rare and amazing 12 times.

After high school, Mary went on to play tennis (varsity tennis was not established at Barnstable High School until the mid-1960s) and she soon became ranked in the top 5 (USTA and NELTA) and received her professional teaching certification. She was a teaching pro in tennis at the Norwood Tennis Club and Deham Racquetime for 10 years, Mary was also the tennis coach of Westwood High School for 17 years, 15 of which her teams were crowned league champions. During this streak, she was voted the league Coach of the Year 12 times. Mary also coached softball and field hockey at Westwood.
