Head Coach Paul "Spanky" Demanche owns the distinction of having the most wins and the longest tenure of any coach in Barnstable High School football history.

    He is also the only coach at BHS with two Div. 1 state championship titles to his credit.     A baseball and football letterman at Fairhaven High School, Demanche was a South Coast Conference and New Bedford Standard Times All-Star in football in both his junior and senior seasons and was also chosen a Div. 2 football all-star by the Boston Globe his senior year.     Demanche went on to become an assistant football coach at the University of Connecticut and then worked as an assistant at Bishop Stang High School before becoming an assistant coach to Mark Titus in 1987. He took the Red Raider helm in 1989 and has never looked back, amassing 115 wins in 19 seasons.     In 1995, Demanche was named the Cape Cod Times Coach of the Year and the Boston Globe Division 1 Coach of the year.     Coach Demanche has also served as the BHS Varsity girls softball head coach and as an assistant coach for the BHS Winter Track team. He won an SMC Division 1 league title in his first season as varsity softball coach for the Red Raiders.     Coach Demanche's long tenure at BHS ended following the 2007 season, a season that saw the Red Raiders stage their fifth straight losing campaign. Demanche went on to accept a position as the new head football and baseball coach at Pope John Paul High School in Hyannis, located on the grounds of the original Barnstable High School on School Road.

     In his near-two decades at the top coaching post at BHS, Demanche had 55 football captains and coached nearly 1,000 football players.

    In April 2010, Demanche was named Athletic Director at Harwich High School.
