Voted “Most Athletic” by the Class of 1956, few monikers could have been more appropriate for this wiry speed demon who was the bane of each football, basketball and baseball opponent taken on by the Red Raiders in the mid-1950s.

But it was on the Red Raider football gridiron where Carlton Bearse Crocker established fame and glory and where he became somewhat of a household name on this sandy peninsula.

Crocker earned four varsity football letters for the Red & White as a stalwart halfback, first as a freshman for the immortal W. Leo Shields in 1952 as the Red Raiders captured the first of two Cape Cod High School football championships Crocker would take part in. A relative touchdown-scoring machine, Crocker was equally adept in the Red Raider secondary picking off opponents’ passes.

In basketball, Crocker earned one varsity letter, according to school records, in the vaunted Large School Championship of 1954-55 when Crocker was elected team captain as just a junior classman.

In baseball, Crocker was a four-time letterman at shortstop where he played on three straight championship ballclubs for the legendary Charlie Howes and batted .333 his senior campaign. He was inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame in 2009.
