BIO
A native of Amarillo, Texas, Coach Dean Boger took over a highly successful Red Raider varsity baseball program on the heels of his predecessor Rollie Hicks in 1982 and that success continued and culminated in perhaps the greatest season ever displayed by the Red & White nine: the 1988 EasternMassachusetts State Champion BHS baseball team that finished 20-3.
Boger amassed an outstanding 175-92 lifetime record on the varsity baseball diamond at BHS, but just as importantly, he amassed the loyalty and deep respect of his players in both football, as an assistant coach from 1975 to 1985, and baseball. All totalled, Boger played a hand in or steered the course to seven postseason baseball tournaments for the Red and White, an SMC Division III title in football in 1979 and a pair of SMC titles in baseball in 1977 and 1988. Sadly, Coach Boger lost his battle with cancer in 2009, but his memory and accomplishments shall forever be immortalized in the Barnstable High School Athletic Hall of Fame, as well as in the hearts and minds of the boys who suited up for him on the playing field. He was inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame in 2009.
