BIO
In the words of former BHS varsity ice hockey head coach Don Crowley, Red Raider defenseman John Hurley was incomparable. “When it comes to Cape Cod hockey players, John Hurley is the gold standard against whom all others must be measured,” Crowley said. “Regarding his talent, John’s shot was legendary, but it must be remembered he excelled in every facet of the game. He was a better shooter, a better passer and a better skater. He could do it all better than anyone else.”
Perhaps the true measure of the man was not so much the postseason awards he piled up each season while wearing the Red & White, but more so the team win-loss records that piled up around him whenever he took the ice, a culmination of effort marked by the school’s only undefeated ice hockey campaign in 1971-72 (21-0) and the school’s first state championship on the ice. He was inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame Nov. 27, 2010.
