BIO

Of all of Matt Dacey’s accomplishments as a Barnstable High School Red Raider student-athlete, none can quite match up to the indelible mark he left on the BHS varsity diamond. Pacing the Red Raider nine to a 16-4 regular season mark and the SMC Division 1 conference championship, Dacey’s golden right arm set a then BHS school record with 11 wins and 0 losses and it was enough for the Raiders to advance to the EMass. Div. 1 State Tournament Quarterfinals. As senior co-captain of the 1979 BHS gridiron gang, Dacey’s golden arm once again shined forth, pacing Don Dorr’s boys to an 8-2 record and the SMC D1 Co-Championship.

It was the best season on the Red Raider gridiron in a decade and it marked a 3,200 yard passing career for the SMC D1 All-Star. On the hardwood for Coach Dick Segura, Dacey quickly became a top-5 mainstay and in his senior year paced the Red Raiders to a 16-7 record and a trip to the Division 1 South Sectionals. Dacey went on after BHS to Phillips Academy where he lettered in 3 sports and was 1981 Athlete of the Year. He played both football and baseball at UNH. As an historical aside, Dacey’s record of 11 victories on the mound was broken by Whitney Floren (now of Cotuit) who went 12-3 in 1987.

He was inducted into the Barnstable High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2006.
