BIO

In the late 1960s, Pete Auger came to define the very meaning of “Red Raider” via his exploits on the BHS gridiron, ice hockey rink and baseball diamond.

A stellar three-sport star from early on in his BHS athletic career, Auger helped lead Barnstable football to a 6-2-1 record his senior year, the team’s best record in seven seasons, a Class C 12th-seed ranking and the coups de grace — a 40-26 drubbing of Falmouth on Thanksgiving Day.

In ice hockey, playing for BHS Red Raider hockey founder Elliott MacSwan, Auger helped lead Barnstable to two league titles.

But in baseball, Auger’s true athletic prowess shined forth as he captained the Red Raiders to an 18-3 campaign and the Capeway Conference Championship title. It was a foreshadowing of his decades of service to come as an assistant and head coach at Barnstable that culminated in the greatest baseball season ever recorded at BHS when Auger manned the helm for the 19-3 Old Colony League Champion Red Raiders in his 11th and final season.

He was inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame in 2007.
