BIO

In any successfulk venture there must always be a constant, an unchanging. almost omnipresent energy that encourages and drives that success forward and helps bring it to fruition.

To BHS Hall of Famer Dick Graves’ Red Raider basketball teams of the late 1960s and on his greatest team — the incomparable 1970-71 squad — Bill Souza was the source of this energy; a defensive wizard on the Red & White parquet floor, Souza’s uncanny knack for taking charges and creating havoc with opponents’ offensive set-ups proved to be the catalyst for 25 straight basketball victories in Barnstable’s first and only state basketball championship of 1970-71.

On the baseball diamond, Souze was no less critical to Barnstable’s success as he was twice named a Boston Globe All-Scholastic and led BHS to an astonishing 50-13 record over three seasons while leading the team in batting in both his junior and senior campaigns.

In soccer, Souza was equally prolific as one of the team’s leading scorer’s for four seasons, while he also produced straight A’s in the classroom. He was inducted into the BHS Hall of Fame in 2008.
