Historical Notes: Halfback Ted Ashley burst onto the Red Raider scene in the team’s first home game of the tough, 1948 campaign, rushing for 15, 40 and 81 yards. His 136 yards on three carries and three touchdowns would not again be repeated that season but it remains one of the top performances all-time. Admission to the Thanksgiving Day game versus Falmouth was $1.00 for adults and $0.75 for students. BHS head coach Leo Shields was quoted in the Cape Cod Standard Times prior to the Turkey Day game as predicting “It’s a toss up. Anybody can win this game.”
Barnstable won in the 4th quarter on a Roy Nightingale touchdown. The score was 6-0.
Points scored were as follows:
Touchdowns: Ashley (3-18); Nightingale (3-18); Brown (3-18); Bearse (2-12).
PATs: Bearse (1), Brown (2), Nightingale (1), Ashley (1)
