Barnstable High School Football 1959
Historical Notes: The 52-6 score BHS suffered at the hands of Fitchburg in the season opener was not the worst defeat the Red & White took that day. Senior Captain Billy Dow, the backbone of both the offense and defense, sustained two fractured vertebrae on a punt return. Sophomore Peter Nugnes, another cog in the BHS machine, suffered a broken collarbone. The injuries mounted for the Red Raiders in 1959, and in the end they had accumulated a tough win-loss record because of it. Still, Dow persevered and came back to play on Thanksgiving Day.
