Commemorative Award in Honor of Coach Mike Zikas
HYANNIS, MA, OCTOBER 05, 2005 — The Barnstable Quarterback
Club, under the leadership of President Bill Sifflard, will
commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 1995 Red Raider Super
Bowl Championship when the Barnstable Red Raiders take on the
Marshfield Rams, Thursday, November 10, 2005, 7:00 PM at W.
Leo Shields Memorial Field. At half-time, the QBC will recognize
the ’95 undefeated team (11-0) and their inspirational spirit
that has carried over to the ’05 squad. “The QBC wishes to commemorate
the ‘95 team’s success so that our current and future players
will carry on our rich and proud football traditions at Barnstable,”
Sifflard said.
Also during the half-time activities, the ’95 Co-captains, Mike
Duffley (’96) and Jon Sproul (’96) will present a special award
honoring Coach Mike Zikas, who passed away on January 26, 2004,
to his wife Karol and two daughters Kristin and Karolyn.
“Zeke” was an emotive coach for this team players, parents and
friends. “We asked the QBC to allow us to provide the Barnstable
football community the opportunity to properly remember his
lifetime commitment to football and we are honored to be able
to present this award to Coach Zikas’ family” said Duffley.
Jon Sproul added, “Coach Zikas motivated us to want to play
the game hard and have the same passion for football that he
did. He taught us a lot while we were with him and it stays
with us even to this day”.
The celebration will continue the next evening as the ’95 alumni
team members are organizing a potluck dinner at Wequaquet Lake
Yacht Club on Friday, November 11th, 2005 at 6:30 PM. This will
be a great time for players, coaches, parents, family and friends
of the ’95 team and Coach Zeke, to reminisce about the good
old days. Please plan on joining us and there will be more details
