Barnstable
Falls, 24-6, in Rain-soaked Battle
On the heels of a critical, uplifting victory at home last Friday
night versus New Bedford, the Barnstable Red Raiders fell to
1-4 on the season after scoring the game's first touchdown,
then watching B.C. High rack up 24 unanswered points.
With 2:13 remaining in the first quarter,
junior quarterback Kevin Riley hit Thaddeus France for a huge,
60-yard completion to bring the ball to the Eagles' three-yard
line. Tailback Bobby Nunes struck paydirt on the ensuing play
for his second touchdown in as many weeks, and an early, 6-0,
Red Raiders' lead.
In spite of a driving rain, however, B.C.
High went to the air and found success. The Eagles' quarterback
Mike Pecca went 12-21 passing with 204 yards and four touchdowns.
Neither Barnstable nor B.C. High was successful in PAT attempts,
running or kicking.
Riley and defensive stalwart Matt Nelson
both left the game with injuries.
